Bob Street lives on land that runs alongside the Facebook data centre in Rutherford County. He said the centre runs loud generators at all hours of the day, sometimes at 3 or 4 a.m. Street said Facebook employees would not talk to him about the noise, so he asked local lawmakers for help. Facebook's site manager Keven McCammon released a statement that said the centre strives to be a good neighbour.
"Facebook's Forest City data centre strives to be a good neighbour. Our operations require that we sometimes test our generator, but we have restricted such tests to business hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Aside from periodic testing, generators are for as-needed use only and such instances are extraordinarily rare."
