Easynet Expands Hosting With New Data Centres To further strengthen its managed hosting solutions, Easynet (www.easynet.com) has undertaken initiatives across Europe to expand its data centre capacity while retaining its focus on the environment. These initiatives include the opening of its first Energy Centre, an innovative carbon neutral data centre in the Netherlands. The Netherlands Energy Centre has been designed to ensure maximum efficiency for power usage, and to maximise data centre space for customers. The hardware used has been selected to require less cooling; the centre will adopt ‘free cooling’ techniques, using outside air to cool the equipment inside, further improving the Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) rating during the winter months. In the UK, Easynet has deployed managed data centre operations within the Equinix (www.eu.equinix.com) London-Slough (LD4) Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centre, providing a foundation for many of its international managed hosting solutions. Equinix is a network-neutral data centre provider and the winner of the Green Award and Best Disaster Recovery Service at the Data Centre Europe Awards. Easynet offers a suite of managed hosting solutions from the centre, including business continuity, security and storage management. Similar to the Energy Centre in the Netherlands, the data centre in Slough has been designed by Equinix to lower energy consumption and minimise environmental impact. In Hamburg, Germany, Easynet has opened a high specification, energy-efficient data centre to meet increasing demand for its managed hosting and network services, and in Italy, Easynet has switched to a green energy provider for its data centre and office in Milan. Sorgenia provides certified clean energy, all coming from renewable sources.
